Cameroon: Kumba School Massacre: One Suspected Amba Perpetrator Neutralise, Weapons Seized

Some specialized elements of Cameroons elite force, the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) have neutralized a separatist fighter suspected to have a hand in the killing of seven students at the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Kumba.

The separatist fighter identified as Wonke by Communication Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi was killed on the night of 26 October 2020 at about 9pm at the Kossala neighbourhoood in Kumba II subdivision on the basis of information gathered from local population.

Sadi said the operation that led to his death was in follows instructions of the President Paul Biya, Commander-in-chief of armed forces, for security to be stepped up in search of those he called terrorist-secessionists.

“The terrorist was clearly identified as being at the forefront of the commando which broke into the premise of the above-mentioned school complex, last weekend, aboard three motorcycles, to sow havoc and desolation, by murdering young learners, Sadi disclosed.

He added that Wonke was neutralized in the course of a violent retaliation of the operational unit when he opened fire on the elements who had encircle him when he attended to escape through the side street in the neighbourhood.

“The room strip-search where the gangster was hiding and then fished out, made it possible to recover, among other things: his RECK brand automatic gun; 12 ammunition of 7.62 mm x 39; 7 ammunition of 12 mm calibre; 7 mobile phones; 1 receipt of national identity card in the name of Nfor and 1 shoulder bag containing Indian hemp," he revealed.

The MINCOM while reiterating governments resolve to neutralise the rest of the band of the incriminated separatist rebels, that is to say about ten terrorists.

He reiterated the firm resolve the state to spare no effort so that the lawless individuals are arrested and brought before competent court to answer for their acts.

He equally commended the civic and Republican spirit of the local population, whose frank collaboration enabled the defence and security forces to neutralise the “terrorist”.
