Kumba school massacre: Gov’t Sends Team To Provide Psychological Support To Victims, Families

The Minister of Public Health has dispatched a special team of 16 psychiatrist and psychologists to Kumba in Meme Division, South West region to provide psychological support to victims of the Kumba school massacre and their family members.


Dr. Malachie Manaouda took the decision earlier this week following the heinous killing of seven school kids Saturday 24 October 2020 on the campus of Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy. At least 13 were severely also injured in the course of the attack.
 
The team arrived the region Thursday 29 October 2020 and were received by the Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Ebongo Zacheus Nanje. The team led by Dr. Mengene Loh.

“Emotionally they are not well and can have bad behavior which is not good. We are here to help people to start thinking well, have good emotions so that they will behave correctly,” Mengene explained. 

They team met and hard a meeting to map out their plan of operation in the region with the regional delegate of Public Health. 

Ebongo Zachs said one of the team will be based in Muntegene to take care of victims, parents and guardians while another team will be in Buea to take care three victims while the bulk of the team will be in Kumba. 

The team is expected to be in the region till Sunday 1 November 2020. The ministry has also made available the toll free number 1511 for those wishing to get psychological assistance.
