Kumba school massacre: UN Scribe Demands Investigations, General Ceasefire, Genuine Dialogue

United Nations has once more reiterated her readiness to support government in resolving the ongoing armed conflict in the North West and South West regions that has claimed the lives of many innocent civilians through genuine and sincere dialogue.

The statement contained in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric. 

The Spokesperson was reacting on behald of the UN Scribe, António Guterres, on the brutal killing of seven students and injuring of many others at the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Kumba.

“The Secretary-General strongly urges the parties to answer his call for a global ceasefire. He reiterates the availability of the United Nations to support an inclusive dialogue process leading to a resolution of the crisis in the North-West and South West regions of Cameroon,” partly read the statement.

The UN stated that the attack is another disturbing reminder of the exacting heavy toll of the crisis on civilians, including children, many of whom have been deprived of their right to education.

While condemning the attacks on education establishments which it stated is grave violation of children’s rights, the body urged government to thoroughly investigate the situation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book as well as called on all armed actors to refrain from attacks against civilians and to respect international humanitarian and international human rights law.
