As COVID-19 cases near 40 000: Gov’t Warns Of Imminent Danger Over Non-Respect Of Barrier Measures

The Minister of Public Health has warned that the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic might get worse in the nearest future in the country with the continuous non-respect of government and World Health Organisation prescribed measures.
Dr. Manaouda Malachie has taken to twitter to sound the warnings of the dangers that await the country with the carefree attitude recently adopted by many which he added is the cause of the recent increase in the number of positive cases.

“To those who continue to speculate, please note that the COVID situation may at any time get worse as a result of our actions. The occupancy rate of beds has increased from 0.5% to 5%. It is high time we respected barrier measures and wore masks while waiting for the vaccine,” he cautioned, adding that the population should only go out when it is necessary.

“While it is true that Cameroon already has its vaccination Rollout Plan against COVID, it is worth noting that the best way to protect against the pandemic is prevention. The situation can spiral out of control at any time. Let us respect the barrier measures and wear our masks,” Manaouda advised.

Manaouda in another tweet indicated that Cameroon has recorded a total of 33 749 cases with 31 362 recovered, 523 deaths. His statistics indicated that there are presently 2 200 active cases of the virus with 158 on UPEC and 38 on Oxygen. This he said represents 93% of total recovery, 1.6% severe cases, 5% bed occupancy and 1.5% lethality.

Aside the non-respect of COVID-19 barrier measures, many have blamed recent increase in the number of positive cases to the influx of strangers in the country during the just ended Africa Nations Football Championship, CHAN, which Cameroon hosted in three out of its ten regions
