Killing of Lebialem Chiefs in Cameroon: Elite, Population Denounces Terrorism, Banishes Chris Anu For Life

Sons and daughters of Lebialem Division have taken a firm stand to unanimously banish USA-based spokesman of the putative Ambazonia republic, Christopher Anu Fobenih for incessantly ordering the harassment, extortion, torture, rape, destruction of Lebialem’s cultural heritage and the killing of innocent civilians through his younger brother, Oliver Lekeaka a.k.a ‘Field Marshal’, self-styled leader of separatist armed group, the Red Dragons.

The decision was taken Tuesday 16 February 2021 during an organised protest by Lebialem population resident in Yaounde to distance themselves and denounce acts of terrorism perpetrated by separatist fighters.

Gathered under the leadership of the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Paul Tasong, at the National Museum, Lebialem youth, women, elite, traditional rulers firmly condemned the brutal kidnap and killing of three traditional rulers.
Chiefs Simon Forzizong, Benedict Fomin, Peter Fualeasuoh Fuambeh were pulled out of their houses in Essoh-Attah village and dragged to the market square where they were shot in cold blood and their lifeless bodies dumped in a nearby river Saturday 13 February.

Chief Fuambeh is said to have narrowly escaped their grip while Chief Fonchenallah was saved probably by the announced arrival of the military who in the course of the intervention freed 27 hostages who were in the keeping of the terrorist fighters.
Some Lebialem chiefs perform ritual to mourn murdered colleagues
“Tell him (Chris Anu), that we have collectively banished him from Lebialem. That he will never set foot on Lebialem soil anymore; tell him, to stop wasting his time on his Facebook republic refuting the acts he so carefully planned with his brother Lekeaka,” said Tasong while condemning the US government for continuously harbouring a Cameroonian ordering killings and human rights violations back home from their country.

“…they cannot harbour a criminal like Christopher Anu, who has without veiling his face, declared and executed heinous acts on the peace loving people of Lebialem…they cannot harbour without remorse, a man, Pastor for that matter, who has not only gone wayward, but together with his band of rogues, sponsors, directed horrendous and unspeakable acts of violence against our people,” Tasong said.

Tasong described Chris Anu, Oliver Lekeaka and their armed gangs as “…enemies of peace, operating under the canopy of an illusion” while decrying in the most rigid terms the barbaric, beastly and abominable macabre acts perpetrated on the lives of the traditional rulers who stood their grounds and resisted separatist operations to their last blood and prayed God to fish out the perpetrators of the carnage and cause them to shoulder the responsibility of their acts.

He said the only crime of the murdered chiefs was that they refused to hand over the proceeds from the sale of the farm produce for the 2020-2021 season to the armed groups as were encouraged other villagers not to succumb to pressure. He said one other chief who is a school Headmaster was murdered for organising schools in the village.

He described the recent killings as an insult not only the peace loving people of Lebialem but the country as a whole which warrants reflection and adequate response to the situation in the Division.

“We consider this as an affront on the people of Lebialem and Cameroon. We consider it as an act of defiance of the worst order. This odious act calls for an introspection of the situation in Lebialem since 17 march 2018,” said Tasong.

He said the heinous actions of the separatist on those they claim to protect questions the very essence of the course and does not in any way relate to secession as claimed by those he called “merchants of bad luck”.

“These men are in no way secessionists, otherwise those commanding them and who claim to have a break away agenda would have called them to order for thwarting their cause if any existed. What is this dream republic that turns against the people it claims to work for? Who are these so-called liberators, who victimize the people they claim to liberate? All the above actions are in no way related to the initial legitimate grievances of the citizens of the NW&SW Regions,” Tasong rhetorically questioned.

He revealed that aside killing, Field Marshal on instructions of Chris Anu, has made kidnapping for ransom/sex, seizure/extortion of agricultural activities, burglary acts into microfinance financial institutions with FCFA 200 million stolen, desecration of traditional authorities among others as new normal in the Division.
Last opportunity for Field Marshal
Minister Tasong on behalf of the elite offered the separatist ringleader, Field Marshal their last opportunity for him to willingly surrender or be hunted and neutralised.

“…failure to come out will be tantamount to sucking the venom of a dangerous viper…listen to the advice of your mother…the Gods of Lebialem are angry…if everyone else were to give up on him, I will make it personal…,” Tasong said.

He enjoined all Lebialem people to continue believing in the institutions of a one an indivisible Cameroon under the esteemed and able leadership of President Paul Biya and to trust and support the military operation.

He conveyed the President’s message of hope to the population particularly the afflicted families and announced solidarity contribution to assist families of victimss.

The event had in attendance the Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s office and the Minister Delegate at Ministry of External Relations in Charge of the Common Wealth alongside other state personalities.
