Cameroon Slow execution of projects: Public Works Minister, Stakeholders Review State Of Road Projects Nationwide

The state of some major road projects under construction throughout the national territory has come under review. This during a three day meeting which ended Wednesday 24 February 2021 in Yaounde.
The meeting which brought together stakeholders in road construction chain to present the state of advancement of roads undergoing construction was chaired by Public Works Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi. 

Speaking while closing the meeting Wednesday 24 February 2021, Djoumessi expressed satisfaction to the evolution of works and saluted the efforts of contractors and quality control firms.

"In general, the implementation timelines are respected. They will be more with adjustments regarding payments, compliance with the works right of way and their liberation,” he said.

He however said there are challenges concerning in particular the availability of bidders and non-commencement projects like Maroua-Bogo, Lena-Tibati and Maroua-Mora roads. He promised to build the capacity of collaborators on site monitoring protocols and to give them the components of a monitoring report.

He at the start of the meeting assured that the meeting will permit officials to appreciate the balance between the scheduling of works, the output of contractors and payment provisions. The three day review focused on project execution and completion schedules for those ready for delivery in 2021 as well as develop expenditure framework on the basis of the 2021 budget provisions.

Some contractors who attended the meeting took turns to present the state of affairs of their different projects. Key projects that came under review included those on the national roads number 1, 14, 15 and others in the northern regions notably works on the Yoko-Lena stretch, Lena-Tibati, Maroua-Bogo and Ndere-Paro roads.

Over of maintenance works on the Ngaoundere-Dang road, Maroua-Laf-Magada road, Sorawel-Guider road and rehabilitation of the Mora-Dabanda-Kousseri road, construction of bridge over the Mayo Pintvhouba among others.

Revelation made at the meeting indicated the advancement of the works on the Mora-Tchakarmari and Tchakarmari-Waza roads, Dabanga-Kousseri-Sale, Maroua-Mora while the company handling the Waza-Sale section is awaiting signature to start work.
