The sum of 16 billion FCFA will be paid out to some 80 000 households across the national territory. The amount falls under the Emergency COVID-19 Monetary Transfers. The information was made known in Yaounde Tuesday 23 March 2021 by the Coordinator of the Safety Net Project, Michellin Njoh.
This was during a ceremony to sign a protocol agreement accord with the Central Bureau of Census and Population Studies, BUCREP. The project interns to carryout preliminary studies on the impact of support measures by the Safety Net Project to host populations and refugees in Cameroon.
The 16 billion will be paid out to beneficiaries in the ten regional capitals including Limbe. It falls in line with measures put in place by government to lessen the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on the population.
The coordinator of the project said the 80 000 beneficiaries were retained based on a selection criteria including the loss of the source of livelihood due to the health crisis.
He disclosed that each of the beneficiaries have already been registered by a payment agency which has also opened mobile accounts for them through which the monetary transfers shall be made.
The programme is expected to last for three months during which beneficiaries will receive a total sum of 180000 each, starting with 45 000 in the first two months and then 90 000 in the last month.
The money is meant to enable them re-launch their economic activities. The first payments are expected to start in April 2021.
