Dr. Manaouda Malchie, Minister of Public Health has disclosed that over 11 000 Cameroonians nationwide have already received the COVID-19 vaccine out of the 5 million (20%) that government targets to immunize.
He was speaking Thursday 29 April 2021 at the Star Building during the cabinet meeting for the month of April. Chaired by the PM, Chief Dr, Joseph Dion Ngute, the meeting focused on evaluating the epidemiological situation of the pandemic in Cameroon which health minister said has been stable for the past three weeks.
He buttressed his observation by stating that ORCA specialised COVID-19 treatment centre in Yaounde has which hitherto hosted between 250 -260 patients now has just 53 patients. Manaouda said the stability has seen a reduction in the number of infected cases and deaths.
He disclosed that Cameroon has recorded 72,250, 1,107 deaths with a 1.5% mortality rate, while 64,572 have effective recovered from the virus. He said there exists some 3,518 active cases amongst which are 304 in hospitals and 89 patients on oxygen.
