Infighting within SDF party: NEC ‘Reconciles’ Osih, Nintcheu Protracted Fracas, Others

If the declarations of Denis Nkemlemo Nchafac, National Secretary for Communication at the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party are anything to go by, then it would appear the party has broken the deadlock between two of its Members of Parliament from Littoral region and other cases of bickering between party diehards.
Nkemlemo in a briefing to reporters on the sidelines of the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting held in Yaounde Saturday 8 May 2021 categorically stated without mentioning names that the recent storms between some members have been tactically handled thanks to the levelheadedness of the party chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, based on the report presented by the truth and reconciliation committee set to look into the issues.

While refuting that there was no war or fire within the party with continues dwindling political fortunes, Nkemlemo, clarified that the issues between some militants wasn’t personal as was mar-oriented by media reports but simply differences on party issues and principles which are obviously being progressively resolved.

“We have trashed the issue of reconciliation and so I can confidently tell you the level at which the party is at the level of reconciliation. The truth and reconciliation commission presented a report starting from where they ended in the last NEC…the debates were heated but sincere and frank,” he revealed, while praising the turnout of members as a key indication to the reconciliation.

“Even many people who were not in the last NEC meeting were there today. That tells you that the reconciliation committee did a lot of work…they have asked them to continue with the work and given them guidelines,” he stated, adding, that “by the next NEC meeting, everything would have been settled because the ice has been broken between certain members”.

Aside handling the issues related to infighting, Nkemlemo said the other issues affecting the life of the party and reports of presidential and last twin polls as well as disciplinary files from the Littoral, South West, Centre, North West regions well discussed alongside issues related to management of COVID-19 funds and controversies surrounding vaccination.

Understanding Osih, Nintcheu tussle
Wrangling between two SDF bigwigs, Nintcheu Jean Michel and Osih Joshua have animated media debates for months now. The battle the two MPs went nasty, warranting the party scribe, Senator Jean Tsomelou, to threaten sanctions on militants discussing party internal affairs in the public.
Nintcheu had strongly condemned Osih for signing the letter written by some 61 MPs in reply of a damming letter from US Congressmen in relation to the repatriation of Cameroonian migrants from the US and the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions. To Nintcheu, Osih’s decision to join the ruling CPDM MPs sign the letter was in total violation of party statutes.
Nintcheu had in an extraordinary executive meeting of SDF Littoral Region Sunday 21 March 2021 taken a decision establishing that Osih’s action to sign the aforementioned letter indicates he has auto excluded himself from the party in line the rules and regulations.
Has NEC Forgiven Osih?
As at now, it is not still clear if the SDF has forgiven its First Vice National President, Osih Joshua for signing the controversial letter. This is so as the last NEC meeting held in March disavowed Osih and urged him and other MPs of the party to focus on getting a debate on the Anglophone crisis tabled at parliament.

The party stated that failure to get the crisis discussed in Parliament would warrant the MPs to withdraw their signatories to the letter to the US Congress. Osih Joshua had before the NEC decision come under fire from Cameroonians on the social media for signing the document alongside CPDM MPs.

Last Minute Social Media Rumours
Information still to be confirmed which is making rounds on the social media is to the effect that Osih Joshua might be dismissed from the party in the days ahead.

Authors of this development which The Median cannot independently confirm hold that Osih, walked out of the NEC meeting over the weekend after refusing to withdraw his signature from the letter to the US Congress as was requested by the last NEC meeting.

It is reportedly said that said he staged the walk out when party officials decided to take the motion from the Littoral bureau on his file to the legal committee for examination.
