To end Nigerian influence on population: MP Urges Gov’t To Upgrade Akwaya Subdivision To Full-fledge Division

The Member of Parliament for Akwaya-Manyu Constituency in the South West region has urged the powers that be to upgrade Akwaya Subdivision into a full-fledged Division with new subdivisions in order to end the suffering his electors go through before getting basic services from state representatives. Hon. Aka Martin Tyoga made the appeal during a press conference he recently granted at the Hotels des Deputes in Yaounde.
The CPDM MP used the media outing to task the ministry of Territorial Administration to take steps towards carving out new subdivisions from the vast administrative unit in order to take administration closer to the population and end the overbearing influence of Nigerians in the area. He used the media outing to decry the suffering of the population who pass through hell in order to get to the sub divisional headquarters for state services.

“Your excellency, what is your ministry taking to upgrade Akwaya Subdivision to a full-fledge Division…while waiting, can we have hope that the five customary court areas for administrative reasons as set up by the colonial administration be upgraded to full sub-divisions as in other regions to bring administration nearer to the people?,” the lawmaker appealed.

The MP said bringing administration closer to the people brings about development and security to the people. He regretted the fact that Akwaya subdivision created in 1963 like Fontem Subdivision and Ngwanefor Subdivision in the North have all been upgraded to Lebialem Division and Momo respectively while Akwaya still remains untouched.

He went further stating that Fondong Subdivision which is today Boyo Division, Ndop Subdivision now Ngoketunjia Division and Bangem Subdivision now Kupe Muanenguba were long upgraded while Akwaya with close to 140 000 inhabitants with abundant untapped resources from timber, cocoa which are all exported to neighbouring Nigeria remains untouched.

He revealed that traditional rulers take close to seven days of trekking from Assaka, Amasi, Ballin, Dadi, Obonyi, Assam, Akwa, Kesham, to get to Akwaya town to see the Divisional Officer while the population trek for many days or spend close to FCFA 50 000 passing through Nigeria to Mamfe just to establish their identification papers.

He said there is urgent need to upgrade Assumbo, Boki, Messaga Ekol, Mbulu and Takamanda Customary Court Areas court areas to full subdivisions and the subdivision to a full Division especially with frontier with Nigeria and vastness of the Subdivision with forest which is becoming a hideout for hardened criminals from the neighbouring state.

  1. These are issues to be handled with immediate effect as they will actually quicken the rate of development within Akwaya Division or makumunu division to be
