Senator Nfon V.E. Mukete, late paramount ruler of the Bafaw in Meme Division has been raised to the rank of Grand Cordon of the Order of Merit. He was decorated posthumously by Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atang Nji on behalf of the Head of State, Paul Biya.
This was during a solemn ceremony at the Yaoundé Conference Centre organized to bid farewell to the eldest member of the Senate. Attended by a cross section of MPs and Senators, members of the diplomatic corps, family, and friends.
Speaking at the farewell ceremony, the Senior Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Aboubakary Adoulaye said Nfon Mukete’s rich political career will forever impact the minds of Cameroonians.
He said the late statesman fought for and obtained Cameroon’s reunification. He called on all and sundry to carry within them and to embody everywhere they find themselves this part of Cameroon’s history that Senator Nfon Mukete has bequeathed to the country.
Many who mounted the rostrum said the late architect of Cameroon’s reunification and independence will be missed for his firm, polite and resolute character.
Mukete served in various capacities in the state and contributed enormously to Cameroon’s economic growth with a vast plantation in the agro-industrial sector.
