It was during the 6th edition of its excellence award ceremony organised in Buea under the patronage of the Director of Civil Cabinet, DCC, at the Presidency of the Republic. The event coincided with celebrations marking media organ’s 10th anniversary as well as the 2021 World Press Freedom Day.

Addressing attendees, the Chairperson of the award night, Barrister Eseme Moses Esembe who also doubles as one of the chairpersons of the organising committee, explained that the award is the organ’s own way to recongnise those who have excelled in different fields and impacted society in one way of the other.
Larry Esong, CEO of the media group who also doubles as Publisher/Editor-in-Chief told attendees that Doh Bertrand was awarded for distinguishing himself in reporting. He praised the young reporter’s mastery of facts in reporting, command of English language and lucid presentation of ideas which holds readers spellbound as well as his respect of professional codes of conduct.
He revealed that the talented journalist emerged winner following thousands of votes cast by Cameroonians and other nationals including readers, subscribers, advertisers and partners of the newspaper and counted by a jury made up of renowned jurists of international repute.
Reacting to the recognition, Doh said he was humbled and honoured to have been singled out for the award barely six years in practice. He said winning the award is an indication that his articles are monitored and appreciated by other colleagues and Cameroonians.

“I feel humbled and honoured to have been singled out for this award. I think it only goes to show that my little contribution to nation-building through my pen is been observed. The credit of this feat doesn’t go to me alone but also to The Publisher of The Median Newspaper, who, has relentlessly directed by professional path since 2016,” the visibly happy Doh revealed.

“Winning an award doesn’t mean I have arrived the apex. It is rather a challenge to keep on keeping on. I won’t lay on my laurels because I have won an award,” promised the certified fact-checker. The erstwhile Kumba Bureau Chief who was appointed Coordinating Editor and transferred to Yaounde in 2019 said the recognition will not slacken his exploits but rather spur him to go further and win more even at international level.

Scores of colleagues of the 2016 Best graduate from the University of Buea’s Journalism and Mass Communication department, JMC, drawn from different media outfits hailed his fine pen, adding that the award is well merited.

The same comments and praises greeted the handing over of the award to him coincidentally by his academic mentor cum JMC Head of Department, Prof. Kingsley Ngange in the presence of many other former lecturers, school mates, and close coteries who gave him a standing ovation to celebrate his achievement.

Aside his job at The Median, Doh also doubles as Centre, South and East regional correspondent of renowned Douala-based Balafon media group.

He has also contributed to many newspapers, magazines, radio/TV stations and online outfits in and out of the country. The young reporter has penchant for investigative reporting and a niche in sports and politics.
