16 days of activism: Cameroonians Urged To Speak Out, Denounce Violence On Women

Cameroonians in general and gender activists in particular have been called upon to speak out and denounce all forms of violence perpetrated on women across the country.

Women’s Empowerment and the Family Minister, Prof. Marie Therese Abena Ondoua made the call in Yaounde Wednesday 25 November 2020. She was speaking while launching the 14th edition of a global campaign against violence on women.

In her address to victims, partners and activists, the minister disclosed that government in its social protection policy is mobilising funds to support vulnerable families seriously hit by the Coronavirus. 

She disclosed that the health crisis has compounded the phenomenon of violence against women and the girl child nationwide.

In a bid to empower victims and raise their morale, the minister handed over sawing machines to 12 of them to enable them generate income for their basic needs. 

The 16 days of activism consists sensitisation and awareness-raising activities. It is expected to end 10 December 2020 with the day of human rights.
