The Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) – one of Cameroon’s oldest journalism and media related training institution has had its first-ever female Director. Prof Alice Nga Minkala was appointed through one of the several presidential decrees signed Wednesday 27 May 2021, appointing officials in various state universities.
Nga Minkala who doubles as an alumnae and current trainer of the prestigious institutions replaces her immediate boss, Professor Laurent Charles Boyomo Assala, who goes on retirement. Boyomo has occupied the said position since 2008.
Before her appointment, Prof Nga Minkala was the Deputy Director in charge of studies in ASMAC. The 51-year-old woman who is already credited for instilling discipline throughout the years and fighting against poor dressing in students becomes the first woman to head the institution since its creation in 1970.
The disciplined journalist enrolled in the institution 40 years ago, being one of only two girls in her class. She defended her Thesis in Information Sciences in 1993. In 1996, 15 years after, she became a lecturer in the institution.
The school that has trained several big names within the journalism landscape in the country has had successive male leaders including late Hervé Bourges from France, Jean-Oaul Nyalendo from Gabon, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, late Marc-Joseph Omgba Etoundi and Laurent-Charles Boyomo Assala.
