Anglophone crisis: Nigerian Woman Shot Dead, One Injured Along Kumba-Mamfe Highway

Ugwu Onyinyenchi Emmanuel, a Douala-based Nigerian woman has been shot dead along the Kumba-Mamfe highway in the restive South West region. The woman was shot by gunmen suspected to be separatist fighters in Mayemen, a locality along the said highway.
The incident is said to have occurred when gunmen opened fire at a vehicle transporting the woman and others. The vehicle hard three passengers on board, revealed the driver who refused to be named. The woman succumbed to bullet wounds leaving behind two kids she was travelling with.

Her corpse was deposited at the Kumba District Hospital Mortuary while another passenger who sustained injuries is under intensive treatment at the emergency unit. The woman is said to have left Douala same day in the morning and was travelling to Nigeria when the unfortunate incident happened.

The vehicles were on what transporters refer to as "express waka" loosely translated to mean travelling in convoy. The gunmen are said to have mistaken the convoy for a military escort of civilian vehicles. "Express waka" is said to be common on that said road especially with those travelling between Nigeria and Cameroon.

The Kumba Nigerian Union Chairman, Ackpo Maxmillian Efanyi has reacted, condemning the killing. He revealed the woman hails from Enugu State in Nigeria. Ackpo said the union in Douala has requested that the corpse be send back to them where the woman was based.
