Waste Management: APME, SELIO Sarl Sign Agreement To Boost Recycling Of Waste Tyres

A partnership agreement aimed at boosting nationwide collection and processing of waste tyres has been signed between the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Promotion Agency (SMEPA) and Second Life Oil (SELIO) Sarl – a firm that aims to set up a factory to manufacture mechanical oils from used tyres.
The tax and customs incentives convention signed Tuesday 29 June 2021 falls within the framework of Law No. 2013/004 of 18 April 2013, put in place by government to offer tax and customs reduction opportunities to companies investing in Cameroon. 

In his address, SMEPA General Manager, Jean Marie Louis Badga, expressed joy having SELIO Sarl as the 51st SME to sign the convention which he enables the state to stand by the young company and accompany and support it with a panoply of tax, customs, financial and administrative benefits. 
He saluted the company’s show of courage, perseverance, practicality and determination to achieve despite negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy. Badga said the convention is a major asset on the way to productivity, competitiveness and prosperity in the current context of globalization of economies and generalized competition.

While pledging government’s total support for the company, Badga, said by embarking recycling of used tyres which is one of the most important sources of pollution in the country, SELIO Sarl, comes to contribute significantly in protection and preservation of the environment which falls among government priority in the 2020-2030 national development strategy. He said the fervent commitment of SELIO Sarl will make it a jewel of the Cameroonian economy.

The APME boss urged the officials of the firm to preach about the benefits that come with the convention to other SMEs still hesitant or insufficiently informed of such options to help grow their businesses, gain new markets, visibility and meet more challenges. Badga enjoined the company to aside the convention regularly contact the agency in terms of difficulty in other to benefit from its other flagship programs. 

As explained by an official of the company, Bernard Edison Akongo Metsakeu, the company will pay attention only to used tyres because of its serious pollution potential on the environment and help promote the national economy by giving added value to materials considered to be useless. 

Akongo disclosed that the company will be implanted in Douala with a network of waste collectors nationwide to collect and supply them waste. He revealed that the company has the capacity to collect some 25 tons of waste daily and will provide direct employment to 51 persons and several indirect jobs.
