Menchum Journalists Union: Newly Elected President, Cham Victor, Promises To Transform Mindsets, Foster Peace

The newly elected President of Menchum Journalists Union, MEJU, Cham Victor Bama, has promised to hinge his mandate on transforming the mindsets of the population throughout the division. Bama was speaking Friday November 19, 2021, in Yaounde, shortly after he was unanimously voted the position.

Bama his vision would be achieved through effective rural communication especially within this period of ongoing armed conflict in the two Anglophone regions in order to foster community peace and social cohesion.
“We will see how to promote effective communication at grassroot level to enhance peace, justice and development. The population needs accurate information from journalists who we are,” the bourgeoning ‘mediapreneur’ stated.

The sole proprietor of Municipal Updates Media Group further sounded upbeat of his mandate. The teacher turned journalist said: “We are out to unite and build using peaceful instruments looking at the time frame”. 
Bama said as sons and daughters of Menchum, they stand a better place to better communicate to their brothers and sisters back home on the realities of what is happening to enable them make wiser decisions. 

“We come from there, we know them better. We can talk to them better than any other person. As a divisional union of journalists, we are better place to transform and construct those mindsets which have been derailed to have differences within the community...it is our responsibility to do so because we know the truth and the reality on the ground so we can better tell them this is black and this is white…,” he said. 

MEJU Executive 
Cham Victor will be assisted by Ndefru Melanie as Vice President. The journalism amazon who works for Limbe-based The Sun Newspaper worked for several years in Menchum division. 
The Society Desk Editor of Cameroon’s lone English language daily newspaper, Guardian Post, Mua Patrick Mughe, was elected to the position of Secretary General while the Co-Publisher of The Voice Newspaper, Theodore Mih Ndze, got the post of Organising Secretary. 
The Public Relations arm of the union was handed to Chou Emmanuel of Vision 4 Television while the Financial Secretary position went to Doh James of The Sun Newspaper. The Posts of Treasurer was given to Fung John. MEJU it should be noted was created in 2015 with the aim of bringing together journalists from Menchum Division, North West Region of Cameroon.
