Armed conflict in NW, SW: Kumba Urban MP Demands More Drastic Actions Against Separatist Fighters

Honourable Tabot Lawson Bakia aka Njalla, Member of Parliament, MP, of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party for Kumba Urban Constituency has urged government to take more repressive measures against separatist fighters operating in the North West and South West regions as a way forward to ending the armed conflict.

Njalla gave the proposal on the shortly after the opening of the November session of Parliament at the Yaounde Conference Centre Thursday 12 November 2020. He was reacting to the speech of the President of the National Assembly. 

“…and also to see how we can bring out something – a bill, anything that will lead to see how government can use extra force in trying to see how they can resolve the Anglophone issue because we are really really in problem…anything, anything possible. All we want is peace,” Njalla said.

The lawmaker said they as MPs are there to assist the President of the Republic to enact any law that will see into it that normalcy returns to the crisis-hit regions. 

“The assembly is there to help the president of the republic to enact any law that will bring peace…let certain measures, drastic measures be use so that peace can came to our constituency,” Njalla appealed, while condemning in strong terms recent attacks in schools and killings by gunmen.

The MP whose constituency has recently come under spotlight following the barbaric attack and on the campus of Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy that left seven students dead with over 13 injured, called on his electors to remain steadfast despite the suffering and to be rest assure that they as MPs are trying to do their own part “to make sure that peace comes to our area”. 

Aside his request for drastic measures to clampdown on gunmen, the MP, noted that his prime focus will also be in ensuring that the 15% allocated for councils are respected to the latter by the ministers concern. 

“...we are in a budgetary session and when we talk about the budgetary session what is of importance to me is whether the 15% allocated to local councils will be enacted into the state budget because that is very important. If that 15% is not given to our councils, it is going to bring problems to us. We are going to face problems with our electorates if we go back without it done. I don’t know the magic that the ministers of Finance and that of the Economy will play but that is the most important point,” Njalla disclosed.
