Governor Naseri Paul Bea gave the instructions alongside other security measures following recurrent detonation of locally fabricated explosive devices, armed robbery, murder, assault among others in several neighbourhoods in Yaoundé.

Naseri while appealing for the total collaboration of the population to ensure the success of the measures, explained that it is geared towards protecting the population and to curb the rise in crime wave.

“People are not supposed to enter into bars, supermarkets, with suspected bags that can enable people to transport these explosives. Security measures have been taken at the level of the division and at the level of the region,” Naseri explained, adding that plans have been made to intensify earlier systematic controls across neighbourhoods.

“We have to enter into the quarter, stop and identify everybody,” he added while enjoining the population to work in close collaboration with security forces by providing useful information that can help track down suspects.

Explosive devices have within the past months been detonated in neighbourhoods like Mokolo, Emana, Melen, Damas and others. Severally persons have been wounded from the in some of the incidents.

False alarm of another explosive was raised at the Ministry of Public Service and Administrate Reforms, MINFOPRA, months back but it was later realised the device suspected to be an explosive was an insulin pump.

Security measures had been stepped up in the town following the explosions.

Security operations were launched with homes and cars search in order to track circulation of weapons and explosions. Some of the checks led to arrest in severally neighbourhoods.
