Curbing unemployment: Gov’t to Create 500 000 Decent Jobs In 2021

Government has announced plans to create 500 000 decent jobs in the 2021 fiscal year. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister while presenting government’s socioeconomic, financial and cultural roadmap for 2021 at the National Assembly.

“…with regard to employment and vocational training, government aims at reaching the 500 thousand decent job threshold,” Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute disclosed. 

He went further explaining that the ambitious employment plan will be achieve by “increasing the number of vocational training programmes through the completion of construction work and equipment of non-agricultural Training Centres in Bandjoun, Ndop, Ebebda, Maroua, Ngaoundere and Bertoua”. 

He added that government will also construct Vocational Training Centres in Industrial Maintenance, Transport and Logistics in Edea, as well as in agro-industry in Douala with C2D funds as a means to realise employment plan. 

Dion Ngute said government will in same light commission the Trades Training Centre in Nanga Eboko, enhance the Advanced Vocational Training Centre for Industrial Trades in Pitoa among others.

According to the international Labour Organization (ILO), Unemployment Rate in Cameroon decreased to 3.30 percent in 2019 from 3.40 percent in 2018.

They are fears that many more Cameroonians might have been rendered jobless following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which had devastating effects on the country's fragile economic sector.
