By Doh Bertrand Nua

Administrative and security officials in Kumba, Meme Division in the South West region have kept the proprietors and some teachers of the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in detention two weeks on after the gruesome attack on the school campus.

Victims of school attack rushed to hospital for treatment

Gunmen suspected to be separatist fighters stormed the campus and killed seven students, injuring over 13 others Saturday 24 October 2020.

The proprietor of the institution, Ayanu Judith and her husband, Suh Gabriel who were picked up hours after the incident for questioning are said to still be in detention at the Kumba Central Police Station two weeks after.

Detained alongside the proprietors are other members of staff including the Principal/teacher, Ekenja Godlove, Vice Principal/teacher, Metuge Divine, Master of Discipline, Akwafe Zebedee and Kounjo Michael.

They were called up systematically for questioning Monday 26 October 2020 but not allowed to retrun home.

Meme SDO, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong is said to have revealed that they are kept in police custody for their own safety and would eventually be set free after investigations.

Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atanga Nji on his second mission to Kumba told the arrested school officials not to panic.

He reassured them that their case will be handled by the SDO. They were ferried from the police station to the Divisional office where they were received by the Minister.

It is however not clear if their continuous stay at the police is an indication that they have been implicated in the ongoing investigations to determine the actual cause of the attack.

The murdered kids were paid state honours Kumba Thursday 5 November 2020 at the Kumba Amusement Park.

The Head of State, Paul Biya was represented in the ceremony by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute.

Investigations into the heinous act is still on though government has blame it on separatist fighters.

Communication Minister last week revealed that one of the perpetrators of the act identified as ‘General’ Wonke was neutralised by security elements in Kosala while manhunt behind others continues.

There has however been accusations and counter accusations between diaspora-based separatist leaders and government over the incident.

US-based Amba activist, Eric Tataw, alleged that the killing was ordered by Meme SDO but the administrator has distance himself from the allegations, considering them as baseless and attempts by the separatist to hide their crimes.

He has prayed God to punish all those trying to play games over the blood of innocent children.
