A new executive team has been elected to head the affairs of the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon.
The 28-member executive bureau was voted during the 5th General Assembly of the UCCC.
The election at the Yaounde Conference Centre was presided over by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam.
Results of the votes which saw Mayor Augustin Tamba elected president were known at the close of deliberations Wednesday 4 November 2020.
Tamba won the election with 198 against 165 for Aboubakar Abbo Wakili, Mayor of Belel.
He will be assisted by Wum Mayor, Anthony Dighambong, whose candidature was rejected as First Vice President and Kumba City Mayor-elect, Greg Mewanu, as new Treasurer General. Tamba takes over the UCCC from Emile Andze Andze. Mayor Paul Eric Kingue of Njombe-Penja-Vice President, Mayor Roger Tafem of Bafousam City -Secretary General.
Tamba promised using the body to assist government accelerate the decentralisation process in the country and fast-track the development offall councils and cities in the country.
He promised to use his wealth of experience in the domain of council management and decentralization to ensure transparency and visibility in the managing affairs of councils and cities.
The association was created in 2003 following the merger of the two former Councils associations, the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC).
It brings together all the Cameroonian councils and supports its members with financial assistance and capacity-building among other things.
The General Assembly was chaired by the eldest and youngest members of the association.
