The 18 MPs all drawn from the ruling CPDM party led by Honorable Njingum Musa (Questor) expressed their disappointment and worries to Minister Manaouda Malachie during a working session at the Ministry Tuesday 1 December 2020.

The lawmakers used the meeting to present worries of the population to the Minister. They told Manaouda that the population yearns to see the resumption of construction works at the Nkwen site of the Referral Hospital, supply of kits and technical expertise to the Bamenda Regional Hospital Hemodialysis Centre, creation of IHC and transformation of health structures across the seven Divisions of the Region and the need to post efficient and qualified health care providers to attend to the needs of the population.

The MPs urged the minister to ensure transitional measures to study the creation and transformation of these health structures, appoint a focal point to work closely with them for the realization of all projects, provide certain areas with ambulances and befitting vehicles that can ply the difficult terrain and reinforce supply of medical equipment to hospitals and health structures.

After the heated exchange between the MPs and the public health boss, it was agreed that construction works at the referral hospital site will begin as possibilities of subletting to local contractors is being examined since the foreign contractors consider the area as a red zone - they are afraid of insecurity pose by the ongoing armed conflict across the two English-speaking regions.

Manaouda also assured the MPs that necessary contacts have been made with the manufacturers of the dialysis machines for direct technical support and supply of kits to the hemodialysis centre. He also discloser that with the advent of the decentralization, the creation of IHC, CMA, and District Hospitals will be devolved to local collectivities as well as the recruitment of staff.

To recall is the fact that the MPs the in July also stormed the Ministry of Public Works to demand answers as to the prolong delay in the construction of the deteriorating Babadjou-Bamenda road stretch that was considered by regime critics as a national disgrace and other projects including the Bamenda Ring Road, the poor state of roads in Momo, Donga Mantung and Ngoketunjia divisions among others.

They expressed the bitterness of the people of the region to Minister Nganou Djoumessi, stating that the bad nature of the road further aggravates the suffering of the population that has been trapped in in the ongoing socio-political crisis for the past four years. Many have hailed the move of the MPs, stating that it has healed more fruits and wish that they continue in same direction.
