After social media outcry: Police Boss Pays Lip Service To Delays In Issuance Of ID Cards, Passports

For some time now many Cameroonians have expressed dissatisfaction to the prolong delays in the issuance of the originals of some of their national identification documents including Identify Cards and Passports.

The outcry recently went viral with social media campaigns, all demanding authorities concern to provide them their documents. 

Reacting to the outcry in a press statement, the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Martin Mbarga Nguelle has paid lip service to their worries regarding the issuance of the documents. The statement was presented to reporters by the Secretary General for National Security, Baya Dominic.

He assured that the production and issuance of ID card is not facing any problem and that those who have applied and their situation is in order will receive their documents in the days and weeks ahead. 

As regards difficulties in obtaining passports, the SG, disclosed that henceforth it will take just 48 hours for Cameroonians to obtain their passports upon application. He added that the new passports will be among the most secured and modern in the world. 

While reminding Cameroonians that the law only recognises the first identification information contained in the data base, Baya, disclosed that more than three million Cameroonians today fine themselves in the situation of multiple identities because they personally change elements of their civil status data. 

He guaranteed that the old possibility of an individual having multiple ID cards to commit crimes is a thing of the past thanks to the fact that the Cameroonian national is well secured and various inconveniences which adversely affected the security system, the country’s economy and environment have been put to an end.
