Ex-combatants of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the far North region have been donated some items to assist in their return to normal life in the society.
The gifts from the head of State, Paul Biya was handed to the ex-fighters 1 February 2021 in Meri, Diamare division of the Far North region.
The donation consisting sewing machines, wheel barrows, sprayers, freezers, refrigerators, motorcycle, photocopiers, boots, protective garments and anti-COVID-19 materials were handed during a ceremony to launch activities of the55th edition of the National Youth Day.
The event was chaired by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou. The minister said the items were intended to empower the ex-fighters, get them active and to facilitate their socio-professional integration.
The ex-fighters used the ceremony to reiterate their commitment to contribute to the return of peace in the area and stated that the items will help contribute to the economic empowerment.
They promised to do all they can to convince their peers who have been brainwashed and recruited into the activities of the need to join government fight for peace.
Also present in thee occasion were Ministers Issa Tchiroma Bakari of Employment and Vocational Training, Archille Basseliken III of Small and Medium-size Enterprises and Ibrahim Talba Malla of Public Contracts.
The 55th nationa youth day will be under the theme “youth, resilience, challenges and opportunities in times of COVID-19”.
