Cameroon Anglophone Crisis: Population Celebrates Killing Of Amba ‘General Spirito’, Five Fighters

There has been jubilation across several villages within Mbonge Subdivision in Meme Division, South West region, following the killing of a cruel and ruthless separatist self-styled leader noted for terrorizing locals. Akuro Capdel popularly known as ‘General’ Spirito was neutralized by elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR Thursday 18 March 2021.
The separatist kingpin and five members of his gang were killed during an operation in Foe Bakundu, a village within Mbonge Subdivision. His corpse was transported to the 6th BIR Unit in Kumba and presented to the population and members of the Meme Administration and later placed at the BICEC junction.

Reacting to the death of the Amba leader, Meme SDO, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong, challenged others still in the bushes to let go the struggle and heed to the call of the President of the Republic. He appealed to them to drop their arms and join the peace and reconstruction process and spare their lives.
He said those who fail to surrender and join the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Centre in Buea would be hunted by defense and security forces. The administrator called on total collaboration between the population and the soldiers in the order to see a total return to calm and normalcy.

The commander of the BIR Unit, Colonel Maodong Desire disclosed that two AK47 guns, a pistol and two other guns alongside 300 cartridges were retreieved from their base after the operation.
Maodong called on the youth still carrying arms in the bushes and believing in the “illusion of secession” to drop their weapons.

He promised that there will be no hiding place for those who fail to surrender themselves and join the DDR centres. The separatist kingpin is said to have been neutralized five other fighters while his girlfriend was rescued by the soldiers and brought to Kumba.

He is said to have principally commander separatist operations in Foe Bakundu where he met his waterloo and Bai area. He is noted to have terrorized locals in the Bai-grass, Kuke Mbomo and other nearby localities where he committed uncountable rights violations notably kidnapping for ransom, maiming, extortion etc.
