March past activities and other huge gatherings to mark this year’s international women’s day celebration have been banned nationwide.
The decision is contained in a release issued by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Therese Abena Ondoua, 5 March 2021.
The release states that the decision is taken on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, following increase in the number of cases tested for Coronavirus in the country of recent.
In a similar manner, another release issued 4 March 2021 by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, has ordered systematic screening of students and staff of all schools nationwide following the outbreak of the virus in most school campuses.
“the ministry of secondary education intends, without further delay, to systematically administer COVID-19 screening tests to all students, as well as administrative and teaching staff of secondary schools and teacher training colleges nationwide,’ partly read the MINESEC release, which indicated that it is launched with aim to reduce the cases of infection and allow for serene continuation of the 2020/2021 school year.
“Henceforth, access to school campuses shall be conditioned on the presentation of a recent COVID-19 test with a negative result,” the release added while appealing for the collaboration and understanding of each stakeholder and the entire education community.
