Cameroon: Over 1482 Medics Test Positive For COVID-19, Recovery Rate Drops To 86%

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be dealing a serious blow on Cameroon following disturbing statistics made known during the inter-ministerial committee meeting to monitor and evaluate government’s response to the health crisis.
Revelations made at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute Friday 12 March 2021 indicated that the at least 1482 health workers have tested positive for the virus following the resurgence of the second wave.

The statistics were disclosed by Pubic Health Minister, Dr. Manaouda Malachie. He further revealed that a total of 633 deaths have been recorded so far with 5291 active cases with 12% occupation rate of hospital beds.

The figures from the MINSANTE boss indicates that Cameroon’s recovery rate to the virus has dropped from over 95% to 86%.

Speaking while chairing the meeting, Dion Ngute, instructed the Minister to ramp up COVID-19 screening within communities and intensify follow-up of patients. The meeting also identified methods to suppress the resurgence of the virus.

As concerns vaccines, the Manounda called on all and sundry to have confidence in the scientific council which he said has been asked to give their advised on which to choose.

Minister Jean Ernest Masena Ngalle Bibehe of Transport used the session to minister to assured the PM that screening at airports has continued as well as decontamination with reinforcement of other measures including wearing of facemask, reduction in overloading within the inter-urban and intra-urban transport sector.
