Resurgence of COVID-19: Cameroon Gages Likelihoods Of Introducing Vaccine, Calls For Re-launch Of Sensitization

Government has begun evaluating the livelihood of introducing the COVID-19 vaccine to the country following the wide spread of the second wave of the virus in some regions of the country of recent.
Discussions to this effect were made Thursday 4 March 2021 at the Star Building in Yaounde. It was during the inter-ministerial committee meeting to check government’s response strategy against the health crisis which was chaired by the Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute.

The session examined the current situation of the pandemic and prerequisites for the introduction of vaccines against the virus as well as other measures to be taken to reduce the spread of the virus. In the course of the deliberations on the modalities for the introduction of a vaccine in the country, Public Health Minister, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, presented technicalities surrounding the COVID-19 vaccination.

It was revealed that 3284 new cases have been recorded in just a week with the Centre region topping the chart with over 1000 cases followed by Littoral with over 700 and the, Adamawa, East, NW and West counting over a hundred new cases each.

At the end of the meeting which was holding after six months of recess, the PM, instructed that all members of government and officials of the administration to re-launch anti-COVID-19 activities at their different levels in order to quell the upsurge of the virus.

Dion Ngute particularly called on the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, to re-launch wide spread communication and awareness raising concerning the pandemic. 

The minister said public broadcasters and community radio stations, various associations shall be used to drive home the message of sensitization on protection.
