The President of the jury to select the official Mascot of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament has tipped ‘Mola’ as the official identity of the continental soccer jamboree to be staged in Cameroon next year.
Prof. Jean Tabi Manga made disclosure during a ceremony at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex 5 May 2021 to present the three best anonymous mascots and anthems proposed for the competition to the President of the AFCON Organising Committee (COCAN), Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
The mascot jury president while unveiling the three best selected from the 35 projects tipped the identity of the mascot to be “Mola”. This identity he revealed signifies togetherness and friendship.
He explained that the selection was done in three stages including the pre-selection of the 10 best works then six works and finally the retained the three best based on eight criteria.
Prof. Charles Binam Bikoi, president of the anthem jury said 100 projects were received and three best capable of electrifying the population selected based on criteria of melody, rhythm, originality etc.
Prof Mouelle Kombi who chaired the ceremony thanked the juries for their meticulous handling of the task which he said unfolded in total transparency. The aforementioned best proposals, will then be decoded and examined by the secretariat of the AFCON organising committee before it is presented to the public.
