Uneasy calm is said to be currently reigning in Foumbot in the West region following violent clashes involving security elements and crowd of irate youths. The said clashes is said to have led to the dead of two of the protesters leaving many others injured.
The angry youths are said to have stormed the premises of the Foumbot Court of First Instance Monday 3 May 2021, to express their dissatisfaction to the poor treatment that was given a suspected drug dealer. The drug dealer’s death in detention as a result of ill health is said to have been the immediate cause of their protest.
The angry protesters blamed the court for denying the detainee proper treatment. The set the said court ablaze and mounted barricades across all major roads in the locality. The remains of the deceased inmate was then paraded across streets.
Surrounding structures are also said to have been destroyed by the protesters who threatened burn down the Foumbot Principal Prison and set all the inmates free.
Such attempts attracted the forces of law and order who stepped in to calm the situation and restore order as well remove road blocks. Their attempts were met with stiff resistance from the youths. Violent clashes that ensued let to two deaths.
