Danger is said to loom on separatist fighters in the North West and South West regions who have now resorted to the use of improvised explosive devices in attacking innocent population and defense and security elements as well as Boko Haram terrorist in the Far North region and others implanting such devices in towns of Yaounde and Douala.
This follows government’s move to boost its counter terrorism strategy with training and graduation of some 1000 noncommissioned officers specialized in the field of detecting and neutralizing locally made explosive devices.
The 979 successful soldiers from the 1008 admitted for the training received their end of course attestation at the military engineering training centre in Douala in a ceremony that was presided over by the Director of the Military Engineering Corps, Colonel Jackson Kamgain.
After the four weeks training, the soldiers are now said to have the rudiment to track and neutralize such devices on the field of intervention as confirmed by one of the trainees.
“They taught us how to detect the various mines. How to bring help to our colleagues when they are an incident on the mines and different military tactics like searching an enemy,” one of the learners said.
Major Mbu Okem Celestine, Director of training at the military engineering training centre revealed that the soldiers have been trained to be the trainers of others because they are leaders in their squad.
