Mbanga, Moungo Division: Court Jails Three Plantation Labourers For Insulting Biya, Ministers

The Court of First Instance in Mbanga, Moungo Division in the Littoral Region has slammed a one year jail term with fines on three labourers of the Plantation du haut Penja (PHP) for insulting the President of the republic and some cabinet ministers.
This follows a viral video which went viral on social media few weeks back in which the one of the three labourers, Clement Dtembe Bonda, was seen raining insults on government members for allegedly mismanaging funds meant to handle the Covid-19 virus in the country at the expense of the needy population.

Two of the labourers were jailed for having filmed the video. The court verdict was passed Thursday 17 June 2021. The three were also fined to pay the sum of FCFA 500 000 francs as fine for their crime.
Dtembe Bonda in the viral video said they, workers of PHP earn FCFA 30,000 and have no advantage, not even that of going back home with one banana at the end of work each day whereas government ministers loot huge sums daily.
He would later be arrested 12 June alongside his friends who took the video while he was talking and detained at the Mbanga principle prison. Cameroonians in the diaspora have fumed over their arrest and eventual condemnation.
Angry Cameroonians in Belgium stormed the Embassy, destroying several items, requesting for the release of the three young men.

One of them was caught in a viral video ransacking the banana section in a super market in Europe, indicating the fruits come from Cameroonian plantations where the rights of workers are violated.
