Sons and daughters of Manyu Division under their Manyu Elements Cultural and Development Association, MECDA, have pledged to unite behind their Members of Parliement, MPs, for the execution of the vision for the Division, return to peace, normalcy and development of the Division.
The pledge was made in Yaounde Sunday 8 November 2020 during a civic reception that was organised for the three MPs of the Division; Honourables Aka Martin for Akwaya, Joana Aborntui Abgortoko for Mamfe Central and Tanyi Teku Teku for Eyumojock.
The ceremony at the Manyu community hall at Mvog Ada, brought together a cross-section of the living forces of the Division living in Yaounde during which they all agreed to seek ways for lasting peace in the division that would open the way for development.
Speaking on behalf of the Manyu community resident in Yaounde, MECDA Yaounde branch president, Prof Gabriel Ako, in his welcome address expressed the peoples unflinching support to their MPs.
He handed staffs of authority to the lawmakers and urged them to make decisive decisions that would contribute to helping government resolve the armed conflict that has stalled the development of the division, made rendered it sons and daughters as refugees and made it very difficult for many to pay regular visits back home as well as be the light that defends the interest and values of the Division everywhere they go.
He condemned the use of hate language among politicians nationwide among which are Manyu elite and urged all to adopt uniting and collaborative approach to problems.
Hon. Joana Aborntui Abgortoko in her address as spokesperson of the MPs lauded the initiative of the their brothers and sisters to organise a reception for them, stating that they remain indebted to them all for giving them their support and vote that took them to the Parliament.
She on behalf of her colleagues promised to live up to expectations of the people of Manyu as a whole with the continuous support of the population.
Abgortoko decried the adverse effects of the ongoing conflict in the Division, revealing that observations from their visits in the constituencies indicates over 99% of schools are not operational with over FCFA 100 million projects that were to be executed in the Division in 2019 delayed because of insecurity.
The MP challenged all and sundry to contribute to return to peace, send their kids to school. She said without education, the people of Manyu don't have a voice
H.E. Victor Arrey Mengot Nkongho, Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency who doubles as chief patron of all Manyu Socio-cultural, Economic and Development Associations cum political flag-bearer of Manyu division, seized the opportunity to underscore the importance of unity and collaboration among Manyu elite.
He condemned political intrigues, backstabbing among elites, and stated that anyone who attempts to create camps among Manyu elites will not be allowed to succeed.
He appealed to good consciences of all to unite for development, peace and effective resumption of classes, return to peace and normalcy which enable Manyu to be placed on her rightful position on the political landscape and grab what rightfully belongs to them in the national cake.
Reacting to the speeches, the MP for Eyumojock, Hon. Tanyi Teku Teku, said they have taken note of all the appeals.
He promised that they will pay keen attention to issues affecting their community like poor roads, pipe borne water, electricity, inadequate infrastructure for schools and hospitals.
He however said these urgent problems can only be handled when they is peace. He seized the opportunity to appeal to those still holding guns in the bushes to drop their weapons, embrace peace for the sake of the Division.
He saluted the rallying call of the Minister for every Manyu child to be united for the sake of the Division and encouraged all to fill the forms placed at their disposals at councils and benefit for the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development.
