In keeping with his election promises, the Mayor of Yaoundé III council in Mfoundi Division, Centre region has set to work, implementing his development vision for the municipality.
Mayor Lucas Owona who is barely eight months in office after his brilliant election in February was on the field Friday 6 October 2020 to evaluate the level of execution of ongoing projects he has launched.
Accompanied in the tour by his deputies, members of the infrastructure committee of the council, the Senator of the area, the Divisional Officer of the subdivision and other officials, Mayor Owona, explained, that it was to highlight to the population what the council executive has being doing, envisages to do and also get on-the-field reactions from them and some of their areas of priority.
The team visited project sites where a block of two classrooms is ongoing at Etoa, construction of boreholes at Ezala to ameliorate the water situation, grading and extension of the road from Oyack that will link Efoulan Bridge to Nsimeyong II.
Owona also evaluated rehabilitation works at an already existing market at Nsam where he revealed it will be transformed into a giant shopping centre with shops, cold stores, slaughterhouses and sheds upon completion as well as works at the annex council building.
He also said the council has within this period vigorously fought the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as put in place a communication unit to spread the actions of the council.
Owona told the population that the council has much in stock for the municipality including ongoing feasibility studies and plans on how to improve Efoulan Lac with the help of FEICOM, build nearby council stores, construct the Nsam market, build more boreholes, classrooms among others.
While expressing satisfaction to the state of the projects, the Mayor particularly assured the population of Etoa that the bad state of the road leading to the primary school would be taken care of in the 2021 budget but added the council will carry out maintenance works on it to make it accessible to the pupils.
The Mayor and his team donated the council’s minimum package to primary and secondary schools in the area including didactic materials and anti-COVID-19 kits to ensure a safe school environment and food items to over 12 social centres, orphanages and associations.
He urged beneficiaries including school administrators and owners of the social centres to make judicious use of the gifts, adding that the items from the state transmits the president’s love to relieve the suffering of the underprivileged and future of the youth by encouraging education.
The items comprised packets of chalk, pens, cartons of books, toilet tissues, wash hand buckets and gallons, packets of facemask, hydro alcoholic gels, wheelbarrows for schools and bags of rice and other food items for social centres.
Senator Elie Victor Essomba appreciated the Mayor’s people-centred and community oriented vision and lauded his open-door policy and team spirit, adding that the municipality will completely be transformed if he doesn’t relent.
The event unfolded under the watchful eyes of the DO of Yaounde III, Biwele Herve Sal who appreciated the Mayor’s output and challenged all and sundry to continue respecting all anti-COVID barriers measures.
