Members of Parliament have taken fresh commitment to vigorously fight against the consumption of drugs, tobacco and other hard substance within the school milieu and the society at large.

The commitment was taken after a one day workshop organised to school them on the dangers of the practice among youth which has been blame for the several acts of violence recently nationwide.
The training was organised by the Parliamentary network for the Fight against Tobacco and other Narcotics (OXYGENE) Tuesday 1 December 2020 at the Yaounde conference centre.
Speaking to reporters shortly after opening the training, the President of the Parliamentary network, Hon. Ngalle Daniel Etong, disclosed that the consumption of drugs and tobacco in our country is presently at alarming.
“From the events that are happening in the North West, South West, the North and even in other great cities of our country, you can tell that there is cause for concern. That is why the network thinks it laudable to work in synergy with other stakeholders in this fight to see that we put heads, hand and minds together to curb this phenomenon,” Ngalle said.
The training brought together stakeholders from the World Health Organisation, the ministry of social affairs and other ministries to think and chart a way forward and see how to curb the phenomenon of social violence linked to the consumption of drug and tobacco.
“Actually we are starting with the holding of this sensitisation seminar because lawmakers have to be aware before carrying out the fight to the various regions and constituencies,” Hon. Ngalle stated.
He said they will also perfectly work in synergy with the ministry of secondary education to accompany schools already carrying out operation clean and green schools to curb violence link to drugs within school campuses.
