Fighting ghost town: Bamenda City Mayor Declares Free Transportation Every Mondays

In his relentless effort to see the phenomenon of ghost towns killed in his municipality, the city Mayor of Bamenda has declared free transportation of persons and their property within Bamenda and other nearby localities on Mondays.

Paul Achobong announced the new measures earlier this week. He believes the move will intensify the fight against the stay-at-home phenomenon imposed on locals by separatist fighters. before now, the city mayor had provided buses that shuttles Bamenda inhabitants for free as a means to support them free go about their activities. 

“We are adding the buses. As from Monday next week, if you see any taxi, you board it and it takes you to Akum, Mile Six, Eight, Ten, Twelve, you get to Santa and Matazen you don’t pay,” he said, adding that the move will run through all the 52 Mondays in the year 2021. 

On his part, North West Governor, Adolf Lele L’Afrique has called on all civil servants to show up at their job sites as well as enjoined the population to distance themselves from separatist orders most especially the respect of ghost town phenomenon.

“I am calling on the population of the North West region especially those of Bamenda to mobilise themselves; ghost towns were about yesterday and not today,” Lele said.
