Cyber criminality: Two Suspected Fraudsters Arrested For Duping Passengers Of Travel Agency

Two suspected fraudsters specialise in duping passengers of a public transport company have been arrested by elements of the police. The suspects, Mohamed Litasu and Ekobo Jouvanie were recently nabbed following a complaint from the management of Touristic Travel agency.
A customer of the agency had on 27 January 2021 presented a profoma invoice of FCFA 1.400 000 for the hiring of a bus through an online transaction with the suspected fraudsters passing for bus agents.

The customer is said to have opted to pay directly at the pay counter of the agency instead of doing it through orange money transaction as was requested by the two bandits operating in Yaounde and Douala respectively.

It was at this point that management of the agency decided to report the situation to the police hierarchy. Investigations through the telephone numbers used by the suspects is said to have led to their arrest in both towns on 27 and 28 January 2020.

As revealed by the assistant research officer at the General Delegation of National Security, Superintendent of Police Vincent Meva, the two suspects confessed their involvement in the act.

One of the two conmen is said to be an ex-convict. They are said to have created a fake website of Touristic Express travel agency through which they did online payments of transportation tickets and bus rentals.

Mohamend is said to have been operating in Yaounde while Jouvanie was based in Douala. The situation is said to have frustrated many passengers of the travel agency who will regularly visit the travel agencies declaring having reserved their seats online.
