The government of France has said it will soon disbursed the sum of FCFA 40 billion pledged to support the reconstruction and development of the war-torn North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

The disclosure was made by the French Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Christophe Guilhou. The diplomat was speaking to reporters shortly an audience with the Minister of External Relations (MINREX), Mbella Mbella Lejeune. “We are still looking at how we are going to disburse that funding and we have some major projects,” the French Ambassador said, adding other issues related the bilateral ties between both nations were also discussed during the audience which comes barely days after French President Emmanuel Macron participated in an online summit aimed at combatting terrorism in the lake Chad Basin Commission.
The pledge from the French government was made in July 2020 when PM Dion Ngute rallied Cameroon’s international partners, organisations and representatives of friendly countries to support the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the two crisis-hit Anglophone regions.
The first phase of the plan requires FCFA 89 billion for its implementation and government has already made available 10% to the UNDP which is a technical partner of the plan. The government of Japan this week signed a financial agreement to fund the plan with 2 750 998 US dollars.
