The Samuel Eto’o Foundation has signed a partnership agreement with the Maroua I Council in the Far North Region with goal promote football, education and other aspects of development within the municipality.
The agreement was signed Friday 29 January 2021. It was signed at the end of Eto’o’s three day visit to the region during which he donated didactic materials and anti-COVID-19 kits to children affected by Boko Haram attacks in order to encourage them to go to school.
“This partnership will ensure the development of sport in the Maroua I municipality that is training centres and stadia are the fruits we are expecting. The partnership with the Samuel Eto’o foundation will also work to provide certificates to our children and boreholes to give portable water to some people in the municipality,” said Maroua I Mayor, Hamadou Amido.
“I am very happy. I visited the Far North because I have seen and heard many things. The most important thing now is to work together to improve the football and education of our children and the youths here,” the football legend, Eto’o said.
The UNICEF goodwill ambassador also donated anti-COVID-19 kits to the population of the municipality. Eto’o also donated didactic materials and anti-COVID-19 materials to children affected by the Boko Haram attacks in the Bogo municipality in the Diamari Division.
“We have to accompany those in need to ensure that they have better opportunities to succeed in the society,” Eto’o said. He challenged parents to send their children to school in the area adding that he cares about them and their difficulties.
Eto’o was also given a hectic welcome by elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR in the region. He also got traditional recognition from the traditional rulers of the area.
