The confusion among farmers as to whether to go ahead with the planting season following early rains has been allayed by experts in climate change.
This follows a press briefing in Yaounde organized by the National Observatory on Climate Change in which they assured farmers to go ahead with planting of their crops.
Speaking during the presser in Yaounde Friday 19 March 2021, the Deputy General Manager of the Observatory, Patrick Mbumba, declared that their assurance to farmers follows results of analysis carried out by climate change stakeholders on the early rains in relation to change in climate.
“For the next three months, we are going to register a situation where rain fall will generally set in, in most of our agro-ecological zones. This is a short rainy season which will extend from March to May and sometimes in the first part of June,” he revealed.
“This is the area for them to start planting. From the 11-20 March, people can plant especially maize, beans, groundnut,” Mbumba advised while directing farmers to focus more on ecological zones.
