Truck drivers plying the Douala-Bangui/Douala-N’Djamena corridors will soon heave a sigh of relieve from the stress they go through when trying to rest in the course of the long journey of plying the said road corridor.
The follows a Cameroon National Shippers Council initiated project to construct an accommodation site for the said drivers. The foundation stone for the said project was laid Friday 19 March 2021 by Transport Minister Jean Ernest Masena Ngale Bibehe. This was during a ceremony in Ngoulentang in the Nyong and Mfoumou Division in the Centre region.
The project when completed will improve the work conditions of the drivers who are usually faced with a problem of suitable space to rest in the course of the journey. The project is dubbed the Ngoulentang Truckers Accommodation Site is situated some 7km from Ayos.
Minister Bibehe while laying the foundation said the project will help foster trade ties between Cameroon, Tchad and the Central African Republic, reduce accidents caused by fatigue and limit insecurity on the corridors.
Mbappe Penda, President of the Cameroon Shippers Council on his part said the project upon completion will create jobs for inhabitants of the area.
The project to be executed by the military engineering corps will be constructed on a surface area of 14 hectares. It will comprise a rest house with ten bedrooms, a refectory with a sitting capacity of 30 places, an administrative block with waiting rooms and offices, a parking lot with a capacity of 120 trucks, a prayer ground among others.
The event was attended by the Board Chair of the Cameroon Shippers Council, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo, Centre Governor Naseri Paul Bea and a host of local authorities.
