The President of the Senate has enjoined all Cameroonians to reject conspiracy theories and social media propaganda aimed at dissuading people from turning out to take the anti-Covid-19 vaccines. Marcel Niat Njifenji was speaking in Yaounde Wednesday 7 July 2021 while closing the Second Ordinary Session of the house for the 2021 legislative year.
“I solemnly invite all Cameroonians to turn their backs on false news and other conspiracy theories that are flooding social networks and to have full confidence in government by massively adhering to the current vaccination campaign,” Niat said.
He urged all Senators to return to their bases and federate forces with elected regional officials and local municipal authorities to sensitise the population on the benefits of the vaccination against health crisis.
Niat lauded the achievements recorded by government in Paris where Eurobonds amounting to FCFA 450 billion has been obtained to help push forward the country’s development projects, which he said is sign of the country’s resilience and performance.
The Senate President urged government to clear its domestic debts as small and medium sized enterprises remain levers for growth and are deeply in need especially with the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy.
He urged public authorities to take all appropriate measures to ensure that the promised quality and speed of service in the delivery of the new passports are effective such that the long queues in the immigration services and the bad practices decried by users eradicated.
He applauded steps taken by government to ensure return to peace in the war-torn North West and South West regions of the country and exalted the international community to support government in its fight against terrorism as well as castigated those still silent on the heinous attacks committed by those he described as “outlaws”.
The session ended with the award of medals ranging from Commander of the National Order of Valour, Officer of the Order Valour, Knight of the Order of Valour, Commander of the Order of Merit and Knight of the Order of Merit.
