Tamfu Simon Fai, pioneer Public Independent Conciliator for the North West Region has officially been sworn into office. The independent and international gas and oil consultant to the oath of office Thursday 8 July 2021 at the Mezam Appeal Court.
This was during a court session presided by Justice Sokem Ngalle, who, invited the Tamfu Fai to strive to see how disputes between the people and the decentralized collectivities can be settled out of out of the law courts.
"As a peace maker, you have to be impartial, straight forward and also ensure that, while trying to resolve the problems that will be tabled before you, you will not behave like us who are quick to pass a verdict. As a peace maker, you must make your children to understand that it is better if a problem is resolved in the family than resort to the law courts," Justice Ndalle advised while urging him to sensitize the population to know that there can’t be development is there is no peace.
Speaking after the oath-taking ceremony, Tamfu Fai told reporters he will exercise his functions without pressure or instructions from any quarters. "I will do my job independently in the sense that I have no instructions to take from anybody,” Tamfu said.
“I don't give instructions to people and I don't take from them. I take advice, I listen and we can solve these problems amicably because the court systems are very expensive and our people are very poor, so we want to solve our problems amicably," he stated.
Tamfu Fai who has a track record of offering investments facilitation, advisory consultancy, monitoring as well as inter-mediation services to oil and gas industries in Cameroon and beyond is expected to serve as umpires between users and regional and council authorities in case of disputes in the North West region.
His swearing in into office completes the structures and effectively kick starts the Special Status accorded to the two English-speaking regions as contained in Law No. 2019/024 of 24 December 2019 instituting the General Code of General and Local Authorities.
The petroleum professional with 39 years of multi-functional experience and leadership in the oil and gas industry is coming in to further fast-track the decentralization process in the North West.
Aside examining and amicably settling disputes between users and regional and council authorities, the holder a Masters of Science Degree in Geology from the University of Ibadan is also charged with defending and protecting rights and freedoms with regards to the relationship between citizens and the region of the council among others. He is expected to work for a six year period non-renewable.
