MINJEC Launches Nationwide Purposeful Holiday Programme

The ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, MINJEC, has launched the 6th edition of the traditional nationwide holiday programme dubbed “Civic and Patriotic Holidays”. The programme is under the theme “Youth voluntary commitment for environmental protection and fight against COVID-19”. It will run from 6 July to 31 August 2021.
Launching the programme aimed at promoting and encouraging youth to have a purposeful and educative holiday, Minster Monouna Foutsou said it will have a huge impact on the lives of the youth through sensitization campaigns, vaccination programmes, educative talks, animated and communication programmes that will help keep the children busy.

The two months nationwide operation will be done through proximity approach, where the volunteers and the educators will meet up with the holidaymakers in their neighbourhoods, villages or cities through an information and sensitization caravan.
Peace crusaders, educationist, authorities, members of the national youth council, traditional rulers, youth movements and associations amongst many others will play the role of the middle person in the sensitization campaign.

Virtual conferences will equally be organized in the regions concerned to be able to get to holidaymakers everywhere and anywhere they are as well as educative internships offered to the youth during this period through which moral values and healthy behaviours will be highlighted.
Audio-visual playbacks, slogans, messages to shun deviant behaviours, indecency, and alcoholism in the youth milieu, violence and extremism will be drafted to help push these youths through their holidays.
The campaign will have partners from the ministry of Public Health to ensure a free safe vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 while the ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family will be on an offensive to fight child abuse, rape, early marriages, sexual assaults on young girls among others.
