The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe has disclosed that some of the key priority areas that would be targeted by his ministerial department in the 2021 budget will be revamping the cocoa, coffee sectors among others.
Mbairobe was speaking to reporters shortly after defending his draft budget before members of the Budget and Finance Committee at the National Assembly. The budget stands at FCAF 86.9 billion.
He said as part of plans to revamp coffee production especially in the North West region, the ministry looks forward to creating a new coffee processing unit in Bamenda.
Revamping cocoa production by producing more improve seedlings, increase production of rice and maize in order to tackle hunger and poverty in rural areas is also key on his plan for 2021 as well as supply of farm inputs including fertilizers, tractors, for cultivation among others.
State Property and Land Tenure To Run On 18.1 Billion
Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure has also defended his budget which stands at FCFA 18.1 billion. The amount will enable the Minister to focus among others things on modernising the organic framework of the ministry and to relentlessly pursue the programme for the sanitation of morals and behaviour enabling it to keep pace with modern management that will provide solutions to pressing land tenure issues in the country.
