Cameroon Anglophone crisis: UK Condemns Recent Amba Killings, Military Brutality In NW, SW

The government of the United Kingdom, UK, has condemned recent killings carried out separatist fighters in Lebialem Division in the South West region and the torture of a man suspected to be a relative of a separatist fighter in Ndu, Donga Mantung Division in the North West region by elements of the security and defence forces.

In two separatist tweets on the official twitter account, the British High Commission, re-echoed the need for perpetrators of the barbaric and heinous acts to be punished in accordance to the laws.

“The UK is shocked by reports of the targeted killing of four traditional chiefs by non-state armed groups in Essoh-Attah (South West Cameroon). We condemn such abuses of human rights. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” the High Commission tweeted.
Chiefs Simon Forzizong, Benedict Fomin, Peter Fualeasuoh Fuambeh were pulled out of their houses in Essoh-Attah village and dragged to the market square where they were shot in cold blood and their lifeless bodies dumped in a nearby river Saturday 13 February.

Lebialem elite belief the act was carried out by Oliver Lekeaka aka Field Marshal on the instructions of his USA-based elder brother Christopher Anu. The Lebialem population have unaminosly condemned the killings and banished Chris Anu from their land while promising to fish out Field Marshal from his hideout.

The UK in another tweet condemned the brutal torturing of a man suspected to be a brother of a separatist fighter in Ndu in the North West region by elements of the defence and security forces with the use of machete.

“The UK is shocked to see videos showing a civilian being physically abused by security forces in Ndu (North West Cameroon). We welcome the government of Cameroon’s ongoing investigations. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” the other tweet read.
The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence has ordered disciplinary, administrative and judicial investigations on the elements caught in the video that went recently went viral on social media.

The tortured man is identified by the MINDEF in a release issued by the Head of the Communication Division Monday 15 February 2021 as Jean Fai Fungong, suspected to be a criminal relay and local terrorist. Eight of the elements who carried out the act are said to be in custody as investigations continue.
