Far North region: Fire Guts SDO’s Office As Land Dispute Leaves Two Dead, Four Injured

Fire whose cause is still to be establish has partially consumed the office of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Logone and Chari Division in Kousseri. The incident occurred Wednesday 22 June 2021. 
The fire broke out at a time the administrative was granting audience to a Chadian deletaion.
It occurred barely few hours after he returned from a field mission in Ngame to settle disputes between to communities. The fire was successfully put out by the army rescue unit after close to three hours. The fire consumed the conference room to the office and some important documents.
“What we can say is that the prefecture of Logone and Chari has been consumed by fire. We don’t know at this moment what really happened. We had an important meeting with our Chadian friends. We are making evaluation so that we can know what is touched by fire. We are waiting for the results of investigations,” said the SDO on a telephone interview with CRTV radio.

The fire incident came barely hours after a land dispute between Arab Choas and Kotokos, two main communities in Ngame in Makari Subdivision of Logone and Chari Division though uneasy calm is said to have returned in the area. 

The dispute left a sultan and one of his kinsman dead and with four injured and rushed to the hospital for attention. The incident also led to the burning down of some twelve houses and enormous material damage.

The standoff between the two communities broke out following what is considered by many as an impartial settlement of a land dispute by the Sultan, the DO of the area revealed on CRTV radio. The local administrator revealed that everything had been put under country security elements positioned at all strategic points while the locals were doing about their activities normally.
